A Scarce British P1858 Naval/Marine Artillery yataghan sword bayonet, by REEVES, for the Naval Short Rifle, the clean blade is 580mm(22 3/4"), with makers name at the forte, the bayonets were classed as non-interchangeable and each one had a rifle number, this one is numbered on the pommel top 33 W, the MRD is 21mm for the heavier barrel, the bayonet is bar on barrel fixing, only 11,000 produced by REEVES in 1858, total production was 15,000, in 1859 these were re-issued to the Marine Artillery, the spring catch is working, chequered leather grips, the grips have some surface wear, and the hilt steelwork has some old file/abrasive marking, the general condition is good. No Scabbard.
